Fitsum Tefera is a painter and curator based in Addis Ababa. He is currently a curator of National Museum of Ethiopia and graduate assistant at AAU, school of fine art and design. In 2012, he co-founded the ‘1957Initiative’ to celebrate annually through art events the liberation of African countries from colonialism.
Fitsum’s recent curatorial projects include ‘1957Initiative’ Art Show which took place in 2013 on the occasion of the 50th Golden Jubilee Anniversary of the African Union. He was also part of the curatorial team for NIGS painting exhibition by Mezgebu Tessema and Addis Art fair that was held in 2013 and 2014 at the National Museum of Ethiopia and Millennium Hall. Fitsum is also member of the exhibition selection jury of the National Museum. In 2011, he received his BFA in painting from Addis Ababa University Alle School of Fine Art and Design. His works have been exhibited at the National Museum of Ethiopia as well as in several galleries around Addis Ababa.
