Mapopa Hussein Manda


Mapopa Hussein Manda was born in Lusaka,Zambia in 1982.Manda works predominantly in the medium of painting,but is prolific in sculpture,photography,drawing and installations.Manda completed his apprenticeship programme at Roctston Studios 1985 under the direction of Stary Mwaba,who is one of Zambia’s prominent contemporary artists in 2009.

Mapopa’s art is mainly inspired by political history, current affairs and science.As a political commentator,his work is part of a dialogue that is executed in series format.His subject matter looks deeper into the conflict of interest related to societal development as far as politics are concerned and involved.

Manda has had group exhibitions in Lusaka at Henry Tayali Art Gallery,the Lusaka National Museum,Livingstone National Museum as well as the Livingstone National Art Gallery.Manda is yet to have his solo exhibition.

He is represented in the prestigious Andrew Sardanis’ Chaminuka art collection of Zambian art.He currently lives and works in Lusaka,Zambia at a place called Art Academy Without Walls(AAWW) in the Lusaka Showgrounds.
