Born in 1993, Martha Kazungu is a Ugandan Curator and Writer currently living and working in Kampala. She graduated with a BA Industrial Fine Art & Design from Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Art at Makerere University majoring in Art History in January 2016. Martha is currently doing her second internship at the Makerere Art Gallery/Institute of Heritage Conservation and Restoration (IHCR) where she is being guided and mentored in fields of research, writing and curating. As such she writes for the gallery website, as well as helps with the gallery collection and exhibition setup. During her first internship at IHCR, Martha volunteered in the Kampala Art Biennale 2014 which was exhibited at IHCR alongside two other venues. Martha participated in the 2015 AtWork Workshop which was facilitated by Simon Njami, after which she wrote an essay for her final year project entitled Contemporary Art in Uganda: the prospects of the 2015 Kampala AtWork Workshop and Exhibition. Throughout her work, Martha is focused on pursuing her interests which are dominated by writing and curating.
